Bio

Kyle Fang (b. 1997, Zhongshan, China) is a photographer and artist based in Vancouver, BC—on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. His artistic vision and philosophy align with the rich traditions of documentary photography, capturing the essence of the everyday through observations of the people and places that shape the social landscape around us.

Fang’s roots in photography began in high school, where he was introduced to the principles of traditional photojournalism. He channelled this fascination into documenting life around him, telling stories and expressing emotion through photographs. Over the past decade, he has committed to the meticulous processes of film photography, processing his own black-and-white film and creating prints in the darkroom. While he works predominantly with black and white, he reserves the use of color for when his approach calls for it. His creative vision is a thoughtful and deliberate one, often shaped by the people encountered and the spaces inhabited.

Fang’s work has been shown in both solo and group exhibitions, and his first zine, Delta, was self-published in 2020. He is a member of the West End Photographic Society (WEPS) and the Vancouver Street Photography Collective (VanSPC). His photographs have been featured in various publications, and he is currently featured in an upcoming documentary.
